At UNBXD we like to talk about our achievements. We like to showcase projects that we are proud of in our case studies. But one of the things we are most proud of: our team!

We are a group of young, enthusiastic and creative individuals that like to have fun but get the job done. To give you insight into what it’s like working for UNBXD, I interviewed Marcin and Marc, two members of our team who have recently completed their third month here.

What three words would you use to best describe your role?

Marcin:

Integral, visual, collaborative

As the core designer at UNBXD, most of the work I do is visual - leaflets, banners, branding - anything visual that comes from UNBXD usually goes through me and so it is important for me to make sure the work looks good. I have to collaborate with the rest of the team on most projects, for example, when designing a website - I need to collaborate with the developer, the director and the client to make sure we are all on the same page and achieve the desire outcomes.

Marc:

Creative, visual, communicative

I have to imagine and create visual campaigns that run across social media and email marketing. I also have to communicate daily with clients and the other team members as we are constantly collaborating on projects.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

Marcin:
I always start the day by checking my emails and then looking at my daily tasks to see what I have planned for the day. Then I break it down into subtasks and crack on with the work. I have just finished off developing a visual identity for a new type of food business in the UK and now working on the wire frame for the website. I always end my day by working on my own personal design brand by doing a logo of the day challenge. I post a new design a day, which has helped me in a recent project where I had less than 24 hours to produce a logo.

Marc:
A typical day involves finding out what clients needs and planning on how I can get that done. I first look at my emails and social media statistics to see what has worked and what hasn’t worked and then adapt the work depending on the results. My workload usually included creating and designing campaigns for different clients across a wide range of platforms.

What is your biggest achievement to date?

Marcin:

Working under short time pressure and processing negative feedback are two big achievements for me. In the past, if someone didn’t like my designs, I would take it quite personally but I have learnt to not get too attached to my work and learn from feedback. At the end of the day it’s what the clients want. That’s what it is all about.

Marc:

How much I have learnt while being here and especially with one of our main clients where I have been an integral part of digital marketing and social campaigns that have greatly boosted their revenue.

What are you biggest professional challenges?

Marcin:

Chasing up clients and being confident when sending work. Also putting in more initiative and being assertive when it comes to my designs. It comes from my nature of trying to please everyone. I am trying to do improve this by showing research and evidence behind my decisions.

Marc:

I have had to learn a lot about the backend of social media and how data analytics work to improve campaigns - especially getting to know analytical and design software. Although this was my first office job, I don’t think that has been a challenge due to the team making me feel so welcome and included.

What do you like most about working here?

Marcin:

The people. It’s nice to work with such a great team. Having that support, having fun, learning from others. Everyone has made me feel so welcome and I like that we work hard. We are always laughing with each other.

Marc:

The team, everyone is really nice, friendly and if I ever need help with anything I know I can get the support. I have found a job that I really enjoy and I am really motivated in the work that I do.  Also you bring in cake!

What have you learnt and what would you like to learn more about

Marcin:

I am always learning on the job. I think it’s the best way of working, learning as you go. I spend a fair bit of time in my free time developing and refining my skills. I would quite like to learn more about web development. I think the skills overlap as many designers can also develop websites and I would like to learn more about this so I can offer the complete package.

Marc:

I have learnt a lot - mostly about strategic marketing and exploring how decisions, purpose, goals and actions all link. I would like to learn more about design. I am interested in the creativity, the way our designers think and their process.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Marcin:

Good colleague, easy to work with I hope. Also communicative but probably not as much as I’d want. Consistent and reliable.

We asked this question to our other colleagues:

Marcin is: bubbly, adaptable, open to trying new things, catches on quickly, multidisciplinary, optimistic, kind.

Marc:

Loud, annoying, a hoot

We asked this question to our other colleagues:

Marc is: focused, a quick learner, determined, easy going, hard working and hilarious!
