Why its time to update your website
If you are anything like me, you have 100 reasons why now isn’t the time to work on your website - ‘I don’t have time’ and ‘It’s just going to take too long’.
Over the last 2 months we have all learnt a big lesson; the world depends on e-commerce. As we think about the end of the current situation and the long term effects this is going to have on consumers, your website is more important than ever. Many companies have been left behind because they didn’t have a strong online presence, just a physical one. Your website is now the face of your business, its the beating heart of your company that you must care for.
It’s finally time to say, I have the time.
If you already have a website, then you will already be familiar with collecting data. In 2020, Google Analytics is providing visibility like never before. It’s easier and quicker than ever to identify which areas of your website work and don’t. Data can be great but it’s not just for looking at, it’s import to take away key information to make a positive change. Where are your visitors coming from? What do they like? What do they ignore?.. Statistics show that 79% of people who didn’t like your website while shopping would be unlikely to buy from it again.
A website isn’t just a good place to get new clients, unfortunately it’s a good place to lose them too. Over 50% of web users expect a website to load in under 2 seconds; experimenting a one second delay here could loose you a whopping 11% drop in page views and a 7% drop in conversions.
Is it Mobile Friendly? In 2020, this is a not an afterthought - it’s essential your website is optimised for mobile.
Design: It’s all about design, design, design. Your website should be unique and showcase your brand with a clear message.
Ranking: You could design the perfect website, but if it doesn’t rank in search results it will slip under the radar. Make sure your website ranks on Google and Bing.
Conversion Rate: So you got your website design perfect and your website is ranking, you might even be getting leads, but if they are not converting it was all for nothing.
Branding: This is probably the most import thing to think about right now. Branding is everything in the capitalist world we are living in. Before you do anything I have said above, take a look at the rest of your industry. What are they doing? What Is working? What is failing? Your branding isn’t just a logo or some words on a white background. It has to show who you are, what your company stands for and what it offers.
Finally, Content: Filling your website with good content won’t only generate SEO that will last for years, but it will also make it look fantastic! This will also lead to your customer staying on your website for longer.
The new normal we are all adapting to will lead to an explosion in e-commerce. Don’t let excuses get in the way, now is the time!
